The key to a successful business plan

We’re nearing the end of another year, which can only mean one thing: It’s time to plan for 2010. It’s time to take a look back at the last year, analyze the data, and make a plan for next year based on that data.

But what if you’re doing it wrong? What if you’re missing a vital step in the process? According to this article on, successful companies focus their planning efforts more on the future and less on the past.

While I believe the past can help dictate the future, the article has some great points. First, don’t assume the future will mirror the past 100%. Secondly, make sure your business plan includes scenario planning. Those who can predict what the market wants are those who will succeed.
